Canelo’s trainer Eddie Reynoso faces a tough challenge in rejuvenating Teofimo Lopez

Teofimo Lopez is training with Team Canelo, staying with Sharpe for a potential unification fight against IBF light heavyweight champion Richardson Hitchins. That fight might not end well for ‘The Takeover’ Lopez if he goes through with it.

Hitchins is like a combination of Shakur Stevenson, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Subriel Mathias. He can do everything, and is so hard to hit. I don’t see this ending well for Teofim.

A time machine is needed

Lopez says he feels it “Rejuvenated,” but he’ll need a time machine to make that happen. He hasn’t looked good in so many years that it’s impossible to take him at face value. He’s 27 years old, and it’s hard to believe he’s not in his late thirties, considering how bad he’s looked since 2021.

Theo is still a good talker and can get fans excited about his fights in 2025, but as far as winning any of them, that won’t happen unless he’s fighting weak opposition. He’s become such a fighter – an Adrien Broner guy who can still talk but can’t fight a lick.

Canelo’s trainer, Eddie Reynoso, will have to be a magician to rejuvenate Teofimo and bring him back to what he was years ago.

If Theo leaves 0-2 in his fights in 2025, Turki Al-Sheikh may have buyer’s remorse for signing a three-fight deal. If you look at Teofim’s struggles since 2021, you can’t expect much from him other than losses and poor performances. Fans of hardcore boxing are aware that Theo is on the down side of his career and will not return to being the fighter he once was.

The Claggett disaster

Theo looked like he had been carried over since his last fight against journeyman Steve Clagett last July, and was all but beaten up in a hell of a performance.

You could give up on Lopez because he looks terrible against Jamaina Ortiz, Sandor Martin, George Kambosos and Pedro Campa because they are decent fighters. But there is no excuse that Theo is fighting Clagett and has both eyes almost closed due to swelling.

Lopez’s three-fight plan

  1. Richardson Hitchins
  2. Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis
  3. Final in February 2026

If Teofimo loses to Boots in October, his fight in February will be against Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Hannay 2 losers.

Loser’s bracket calls

It’s likely that Lopez will end up on the loser’s bracket, ready to fight Henny. It’s a win for Teofim, but only because Hanei can’t take a hit.

WBO 140lb champion Tefoimo (21-1, 13 KOs) hopes to get 2025 off to a good start by fighting the unbeaten Hitchins (19-0, 7 KOs) and then IBF 147lb champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis in oc

WBO 140-pound champion Theo is a good basic champion, but he is not the fighter he once was five years ago. He may never have been much of a talent to begin with, but he’s gone downhill since 2020.

Three fights, three defeats?

“We just execute and take over.” This is a great year for me. I feel rejuvenated. These are exciting fights that we look forward to fighting and taking on,” said Teofimo Lopez. Fight Hub TV about his plans to fight in a unification match against Richardson Hitchins, then Jeron ‘Boots’ Ennis in October.

“I’m not going to fight until the beginning of the summer.” I want to play business this year. I want to make real deals. Richardson Hitchins, Jaron Ennis and then the final. I fight for the champion, and then the big fight.

“He just needs to get rid of his pride and ego.” Just play business,” Teofimo said when asked if we’ll see him and Gervonta Davis fight. If you really want to fight us, that’s how we’ll make it happen.”
