Canelo Alvarez met with Turki Al Shieh today and said there is a “chance” a fight between him and Terence Crawford could happen. He says he’s always looking for “the best deals.”
Turki is hoping to stage a fight between Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) and Crawford in 2025 as it is one of the biggest fights that could potentially take place in North America this year. It remains to be seen whether he will succeed in that fight.
Canelo Seeks ‘Best Deals’
Crawford, 37, has yet to say what he will do if he doesn’t get to fight Canelo. We know that Terence’s age and fighting at 154 against younger, stronger and bigger fighters will eventually lead to his loss. He nearly lost his last fight, his debut at 154 against WBA junior middleweight champion Israil Madrimov on August 3 last year.
“There is always a chance.” We’ll see, but there’s always a chance here to make the best offers, and there’s always a chance,” said Canelo Alvarez. Ring Magazine when asked if a fight between him and Terence Crawford is possible.
“I think it will be another good fight. Both fighters are good fighters. So I think both of them have a chance to win,” Canelo said of the Feb. 22 rematch between undisputed welterweight champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitri Bivol in Riyadh.
Former world division champion Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) is looking to challenge Canelo for their unified super middleweight titles this year. He thinks he has the talent to overcome his lack of size. Crawford thinks he has enough size and skill to beat Canelo.
The Mexican star has shown signs of slowing down in his last two fights against Edgar Berlanga and Jaime Munguia. These are fighters that Canelo would likely knock out in 2021 and before, but he was forced to a 12-round decision to beat them.
