Heavyweight contender Justice Hunney (12-0, 7 KOs) scored an easy second-round TKO over Sean Potgieter (10-2, 7 KOs) on Wednesday night’s Jay Opetai v David Niik undercard at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, Broadbeach , Queensland, Australia.
Huni, 25, injured South African Potgieter with a right hand to the head in the second round. He then landed a few more hard shots and referee Phil Austin stepped in to stop the contest. Stoppage time was 0:33 of the second round.
Australian Huni looked slow but powerful with his right hand. He didn’t have to worry about anything coming back from Potgieter, which was lucky for him. It would be interesting to know why Potgieter was chosen for Hunny as he did not look fit and looked quite old.
Hunni really struggled to beat Kevin Lerena last year in March and was fired up by him throughout their 10-round fight. He barely won that fight. Tonight was more about giving Huna a softer opponent to make him look good.
It’s too early to know how far Huni can go in the sport. He has to be ranked high enough to get the world title to get a nice salary. He doesn’t look ready to fight the big dogs in the division, like IBF champion Daniel Dubois.
“The more active I am, the better I will be.” “I have some injuries to deal with, but as soon as possible, I will be back in the ring,” said Justice Hooney. DAZN following his second-round knockout of Sean Potgieter on Wednesday night.
“I’ll leave it to my team. They have done a good job with me so far. I believe I can go all the way.”
It would be nice to see Justis fight Moses Itauma. It would be an entertaining battle between two heavy hitters. Both are similar in the way they move forward with slow feet and are easy to hit.
“This guy is almost there. You have another potential heavyweight champion in Justis Huna. “He’s in the top 15 in three governing bodies,” Eddie Hearn said. “The strength and conditioning team did a great job. The speed is back.
“Trust has returned. Like he said, it gets over a little injury. You will see him in a few months. Big 2025 for Justis Huney.
