Boots Ennis That 154? It’s time for a new challenge

Undefeated IBF world welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis wants to stay at welterweight to unify the titles. The only problem is that the champions of three other organizations don’t want to unite to fight him.

After an unimpressive win, while no doubt a winner, you’d think one of the champions would be willing now. Ennis’ promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, is probably the busiest promoter in the world. Super welterweight Virgil Ortiz, Jr., 22-0, 21 stoppages, was rumored to have been offered the fight. “We’ve never been offered this,” Bozzi Ennis said. Ortiz is scheduled to face Israil Madrimov on February 22nd, 10-1-1 with 7 stops from Uzbekistan and California, coming off a close loss to Terence Crawford.

Possible Welterweight Opponents Lithuanian WBA Champion Eimantas Stansonis, 15-0 with 9 stoppages. “He’s the best of the champions and he’d love that fight,” Bozzie Ennis said. Also, WBC Champion Brian ‘The Assassin ll’ Norman, Jr., 26-0 with 20 Georgia stoppages, and WBC Interim Champion Mario ‘El Azteca’ Barrios, 29-2-1 with 13 Texas stoppages.

IBF No. 3 welterweight (No. 1 and No. 2 vacant) Jin Sasaki, 18-1-1 with 17 stoppages for Japan, is scheduled to defend his WBO Asia-Pacific and Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation titles on January 24 against Shoki ‘ELPV’ Sakai. 29-14-3 with 15 Japan’s break.

If Ennis moves up in weight, he could face WBO Super Smash Champion Sebastian ‘The Towering Inferno’ Fundor, 21-1-1 with 13 California stoppages. “He’s an inside fighter, even though he’s 6’05,” Bozey Ennis said, “and that’s why he got beat up.”

Adding, “his sister can really fight. IBF champion Bakhram Murtazaliev, 23-0 with 17 stoppages of Russia and California, and former 2-division WBA Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford, 41-0 with 31 stoppages of Nebraska. No one has a fight scheduled. At 37, Crawford is looking for one big payday before retirement, and Alvarez can make it happen.
