Liberal comedian Bill Maher blasted his own party for cutting off family members over politics over the holidays.
In Sunday’s continuation of his “Club by accident” podcast, Maher and fellow comedian Jay Leno bonded over the late entertainment icon Sammy Davis Jr. and how he famously hugged President Richard Nixon.
Leno noted that Hollywood liberals considered him a “traitor” for his embrace of the Republican president.

“It’s so funny that you bring that up because, like today, we live in this time where you’re not allowed to have friends on the other side or cross borders politically,” Maher told Leno. “And I forgot there was an example of that a long time ago, a guy who crossed the line politically. ‘Ooh, the worst thing you could ever do — be friends with a Republican. Ahh! Call 911!'”
“This is what I fucking hate about the left,” Maher continued. “And they’re not going to switch me over to the Trump side, which they think sometimes they will, just the idea of, you know, ‘cutting off your family for Thanksgiving if they voted for the wrong guy.’ Fuck you, fuck you.’ And Sammy — when he embraced Nixon, he was often ostracized by the left, that was the first sign of that.”

expressed Maher similar feeling on his HBO show “Real Time” last month during a monologue following President-elect Trump’s victory.
He aimed at the head of psychiatry at Yale University, dr. Amanda Calhoun, who raised eyebrows when told by MSNBC’s Joy Reid it was okay to cut off relatives who voted for Trump and not be with them for the holidays.

“Oh, how clean. It’s like not letting certain people sit with you on the bus,” Maher responded, showing a photo of civil rights icon Rosa Parks. “Think about it, a mental health expert advises people to isolate themselves during the holidays. And don’t forget to drink too much and gain weight.”
“You know who I really wouldn’t want to go to Thanksgiving dinner with? This over-educated, ie extremely stupid, Ivory Tower academic, but I would because if we ever want this nation to heal, this is what we have to do, force ourselves reach out and find out why someone feels the way they do, and make the decisions they make without prejudice about being a monster. And they have to do the same for you,” Maher continued.
