The family of a 9/11 victim accused the Biden administration of changing the course of a plea deal for the alleged 9/11 masterminds for political purposes after a military court judge ruled that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin could not withdraw the offers.
9/11 Justice President Brett Eagleson reacted to the news on “Fox & Friends Weekend,” calling the situation a “terrible travesty” as families remain outraged that the death penalty could be abolished as punishment for suspected perpetrators.

Brett Eagleson: It was a politically motivated decision to cancel. We think they knew all along that there was no chance, but in the heat of the election, on the eve of November, they were totally called out for a terrible decision. Look, I haven’t heard from a single member of the 9/11 family who thinks this is a good idea, and the reality here is that everything about 9/11, everything about this 23-year national nightmare that we’ve had to contend with, is a terrible travesty from the days after 9/11.
When the US government worked with Saudi Arabia to cover up Saudi Arabia’s role, to the time we sent 5,000 or 6,000 of our troops to slaughter in Iraq for no reason at all, to the very fact that Congress just denied benefits to first responders, now this … where we get those terrorist sweet cookies. We’ve been punched in the gut over and over again, and we’ve had enough of it, and we’re so hopeful that we’ll finally have a president who will do the right thing here… One thing I want to point out is that on September 11th of this year, when Vice President Harris and Biden were sitting behind the red rope at the 9/11 World Trade Center Memorial, President Trump was… at a New York City firehouse. He was there with me and I had a chance to talk to him.
And we told him: ‘Mr. President, you were right in 2016 when you said that Saudi Arabia brought down those towers.’ He said this right on this show on ‘Fox and Friends’. We said, Mr. President, we had to get information not from the American government, about the role of Saudi Arabia, we had to get it from the British government. We said, ‘Mr. President, the same people who tried to bring you down in Russia, Russia, Russia, Bob Mueller and the deep state of this country are the same people who blocked our justice. These are the same people who came up with these horrible plea deals, would you do something to help us?’ And he pledged to us that day at the New York firehouse on 9/11 that if elected president, he would do the right thing. He said he can deal with Saudi Arabia and will bring us final justice and closure and we will hold them accountable for it. And we really hope so. This is a new beginning for America. We have a Republican controlled Congress, we have a president in office who puts America first. So let’s hope he really, truly does.
Eagleson, who is the son of a 9/11 victim, was outraged by the decision, as were many other family members, and is calling for more to be done. The plea deals would allow three men accused of planning the 9/11 attacks to plead guilty in exchange for being spared capital punishment.
The opinion of the court, which has not yet officially releasedhe said the plea deals reached by military prosecutors and defense attorneys were valid and enforceable and that Austin overstepped his authority when he later tried to overturn them.
The Pentagon has the option of appealing to the federal appeals court for the D.C. Circuit for emergency review, but there were no filings in the court docket as of Tuesday afternoon.
The hearing is scheduled for next week at Guantanamo BayCuba, where Mohammad and two other defendants could plead guilty in separate hearings, with the death penalty abolished as a possible penalty.
The charge deals in protracted case against terrorists were launched over the summer and approved by the top official of the Gitmo military commission.
