BBC goes inside Syrian prison holding IS detainees

The fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime did not free all Syrian prisoners.

Al-Sina prison holds more than 5,000 prisoners in the north-east of the country, which is under Kurdish rule.

The prisoners – including Britons – are believed to be fighters and supporters of the Islamic State group. Many are said to have remained loyal to it until the final suspension in 2019.

The BBC’s chief international correspondent, Orla Guerin, has been offered a prison sentence.
