Astros’ Lance McCullers Jr reveals death threats after start vs Reds

Houston Astros Pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. He said the team fans turned him the worst way.

After a rough start on Saturday, where he allowed seven runs earned in only one -third of Inning that performed against Cincinnati RedsMcCullers said he had received death threats from astrosa fans online.

“I understand that people are very passionate and people love astroshs and love sports, but threatening to find my children and kill them a little difficult that they face,” said the 31-year-old right back. “So, just like a father, I think there have been many, many threats over the years, and I think one or two people from the other questions around the baseball actually had to go to jail because of such things.

“But I think they will bring the children to the equation, threatening to find them or the next time they see us in public, stab my children to death, it is difficult to hear like a dad.”

Police Directorate in Houston and MLB Security was alerted to McCullers threats, the organization said.

This was only McCullers’s second start for Astros of the World Series 2022, because he fought through several injuries in the last two seasons.

It was catastrophic from the beginning because Elly de la Cruz hit Homer with three run after McCullers walked ie Friedl and hit Matt Mclain Terren to start the game. McCullers came out after a home run, but two walks and two more goals afterwards, they turned the game quickly into a 5-0 lead.

Manager Joe Espada had to pull the plug on McCullers, but basic runners in second and third place were still his responsibility. They found themselves later in the first inning for Cincinnati.

Espad also spoke of death threats against his veteran starter.

“There are people who threaten his life and the life of his children for his performance,” Eswad explained. “It is very unhappy that we have to deal with it. After all, he did for this city, for his team, the fact that we have to talk about it in our office – and I got children, and that really disturbed me to deal with it. Very sad, very sad.”

McCullers is a double champion in the world series who is trying to find consistency on the crowd once again. His injuries problems began in spring training in 2023, when the muscle stress in the hand of the cube extinguished him. Then, in June that year, he was undergoing surgery to end the season to repair a flexible tendon in his hand, as well as removed the bone.

McCullers’ rehabilitation did not go as planned. In July 2024. He was closed from throwing and it was announced that he would miss the whole season. He would finally get his opportunity on the crowd on May 4th, where he threw three countless insertions against Chicago White Sox.

“If you don’t succeed, you don’t succeed on a very large stage (with) a lot of eyes and there’s nowhere to hide,” McCullers added. “At the end of the day, I just want to do my job. I just want to be a good Astros launcher and I believe I’ll get there. But, as I said, I just think I’m worried about it, take care of leaving the city and leaving them and such things, or to reject it at school, I just think there would be some kind of decency.

McCullers, who made an All-Star team in 2017, owns a 3,55 era career with astrosy, even after his coarse out on Saturday. It also has a 3,47 era in 19 post -season games, all with Houston.
