For Caroline Laubach, a test for a Wandercraft test is more than just trying out New technology. It is a refund of feelings of freedom and connection that many wheelchairs miss. “When I’m in an exoskeleton, I feel more free than in my daily life,” Laubach said. “It gives me the opportunity to walk and talk to people at the eye level. I don’t have to watch people all the time.
“Because of this, I feel more visible and capable of connecting with others. One thing I noticed is how much exoskeleton would be involved in a wide variety of disability. The goal is to have disabled people with disabilities that they can use this exoskeleton to live their daily life in the world; I can definitely see that this is happening in the future.”

Journey of Wandercraft started with a personal challenge. Nicolas Simon, a co-founder of the company, saw that members of their own family were struggling with mobility because of Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease, a genetic condition. As a student and lover of robotics, Simon wanted to create something that could help his brother and others like him to walk. In addition to Matthieu Masselin and Jean-Louis Constanza, who also had a personal connection with the cause, Simon founded Wandercraft 2012.

As Simon says, “It is important that the exoskeleton is fast enough to be used in the real world. By integrating the Nvidia AI into a device, we can one day allow users to walk the average pace, cross the road and go up and down the stairs.”
