Elon Musk has asked if the US should “liberate the people of Britain from their tyrannical government” after lashing out at top British lawmakers.
In recent days, the tech billionaire and key adviser to US President-elect Donald Trump has taken to social media to air his grievances with the British government, resulting in a war of words between the Tesla boss and a British government official.
In a series of posts on social media platform X – which Musk owns – the tech mogul hit out at the UK Labor government, criticizing its handling of historic child abuse scandals.
Musk accused UK Defense Minister Jess Phillips of being an “apologist for rape genocide” on Friday, before publishing a series of posts. to call for prime minister Keir Starmer to be fired and face the prison on how child care gangs and other criminals who target children have been prosecuted.
Musk’s comments came after Phillips rejected calls for a government-led inquiry into the sexual exploitation of children in the town of Oldham.
Before embarking on a political career, Starmer served as the UK’s Director of Public Prosecutions, leading the Crown Prosecution Service during the country’s child abuse gang scandal.
A spokesman for Phillips was not immediately available for comment when contacted by CNBC.
“In the question of Elon Musk … it’s a really important set of problems. The sexual explosion of children is very sick,” Starmer said in response to a question during a press conference on Monday. “[But] those who spread lies and misinformation as far and wide as possible – they are not interested in the victims, they are interested in themselves.”
UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting slammed Musk’s attack on Phillips as a “disgraceful smear” over the weekend.
“Keir Starmer and Jess Phillips, who have both been on the receiving end of completely wrong criticism, have done more in their professional lives than most people will ever do to shut down pedophiles, rapists, wife beaters and all the other scumbags in our society,” he said in an interview with the broadcasters BBC.
Musk’s criticism of the UK government over the weekend culminated in a survey, where he put the concept of “liberation of the people of Great Britain” to the users of the platform.
