Hani’s Leg Exercises: Ignoring the Real Threat

Devin Hanney has been showing off his fancy footwork on social media, preparing for his March 25th return to BLK Prime. Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) posted a video of himself working on a grass field, using football-like footwork.

Left hip problem

How the footwork will help Hanna (26) in the fight is the real question. His problem was getting shot in the head by Ryan Garcia, not using football agility drills. Devin needs to look at different drills to block the left hook.

The former two-league world champion Haney’s opponents for his March 25 match are these guys:

  • Adrien Broner
  • Tevin Farmer

Both are in their mid-30s and haven’t beaten anyone of note in years. All the footwork that Hannay showed in his video workout is a loss for him if he’s going to fight Broner (35-5-1, 24 KOs) or Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs).

Young AB from 2010 to 2012 would be torture for Devin, but he hasn’t looked the same since being beaten in a 12-round unanimous decision loss to Marcos Maidana on December 14, 2013. That loss took something out of Broner.

Former four-division world champion Broner is coming off a 10-round unanimous decision loss to Blair Cobbs last June 7. Cobbs dropped him in the second round and dominated until the end.

Former IBF light heavyweight champion Farmer has lost his last two fights to William Zepeda and Raymond Muratala. Given that Farmer hasn’t beaten a world-class fighter since his 2019 win over Guillaume Frenoit, it makes no sense for Henney to use him as his back-up opponent.

What Hannay needs is a crash course on how to block the left hook as that is the weapon that Ryan Garcia and Jorge Linares have used to hurt him in their fights. Fighting Farmer won’t help Hannay, and the same goes for Broner. Those guys are too old and past to be useful to Devin.
