California Democrats At the annual state convention, she had mixed feelings about whether anyone from their country could win the national level after former Vice President Kamal Harris lost in 2024.
The envoys convened with guests over the weekend to instill new members and plan the election season in 2026. Although Harris and California government Gavin News were seen as Potential democratic presidential candidates for 2028, Nor did he appear at the Convention, and Harris just addressed the convention through the video.
The Convention greatly avoided discussions on the 2028 election, with at least one delegate wondering if a liberal California could win the national stage at all.

“I don’t know if the California Democrat can win the presidential election,” said Delegate Jane Baulch-Enloe Los Angeles Times. “California is considered crazy to people … I don’t mean a bad way – even though I know some people do it – but we’re doing it differently here.”
Instead, Baulch-Enloe insisted that California Democrats should first “attract people to our side and help them understand that we were not just Wacko liberals and teaching people that it was okay to want things” like higher salaries or universal health care.
Other participants, such as the Asian American leader of the Pacific Island, Aref Aziz, claimed that Democrats must have a clearer perspective and an economics message if they want to win more choices.
“When you look at a lot of our economies, California and New York, in all accounts, GDP, the numbers you look at, they are going great,” Aziz said. “But when it comes to the costs that consumers pay in these places, they are so high and so far above other countries that we eventually reduce any value in our GDP, because everything is so expensive.”
However, not all delegates believed California liberal policy would be an obstacle to the future election.

“People like to direct their finger somewhere and I think California is an easy target, but I don’t agree,” Delegate Melissa Taylor told La Times. “Because I think California advocates the values that the Democratic Party believes, as we believe in work, believe in health care, believe in women’s rights, we believe in the rights for LGBTQ people.”
Jodi Hicks, president of California branches of planned parenting, added that Harris’s loss had encouraged more “unique” factors, including her short quarterly campaign, not politics. However, she agreed that Democrats would need to “walk and chew the tire at the same time” when it comes to promoting liberal policies and helping the economy.
