As the White House reduces over 100 assistants from it National Security Council Staff, some former officials and analysts ask if a smaller team can meet the demands of a fast and dangerous global security environment.
About half of the NSC team of 350 people will deviate in what the White House calls the “true size” of a historical bureaucratic body composed mainly from a career-diplomat that many see as if they are not in step with the president’s agent.
Assistants originally on loan from agencies like a state department and Pentagon They return to their home departments. Political nameders are placed on administrative leave that the White House will find other roles for them elsewhere in the administration.
Some former NSC officials said Fox News Digital that it was too early to say whether a overhaul to result in a more effective agency-or one poorly equipped to make timely intelligence for national security decisions.

In private, national security sources asked if State Secretary Marco Rubio, who is currently performing a temporary national security adviser, may be compared to avoiding internal energy after returning to the original place.
Michael Allen, former Senior Director of the NSC, said the change in staff reflect the president Donald Trump The desire for direct control over key decisions.
“I think people want people to make decisions earlier than previous presidents,” Allen told Fox News Digital.
NSC has outlined Rocky Waters since he lost national security adviser Mike Waltz after an inadvertent posted signal chat. His deputy, Alex Wong, also recently left the agency, and other assistants who had a major impact on the early foreign policy decisions of the administration, were expelled in restructuring on Friday.
Eric Trager, Senior Director of Questions in the Middle East, who traveled with envoy Steve Witkoff for some of his Iran negotiations, goes out. So is Andrew Peek, the senior director of Europe and Eurasia, who helped coordinate access to the conflict of Russia-Ukraine.
In addition, the restructuring of Andy Barker will transfer national security advisers to Vice -President JD Vance, and Robert Gabriel, Assistant President of Politics, in the roles that serve as deputy national security advisers.

“This is naturally happening on the NSCS, the kind of downtime we have seen in the Biden administration is very atypical,” said Victoria Coates, a former deputy advisor to Trump national security.
She noted that President Ronald Reagan had six national security advisers for two terms as president, except for two NSA duties.
“For the president, he has legitimate concerns about the NSC since the first term, given what happened, and then, you know, there is no sugar lining: the signalgate situation was a problem for NSA Waltz,” Coates continued. “The President takes action to bring NSC into a condition that he would have fully trust in that.”
With a slimmer NSC, the president is expected to lean more strongly on Rubio, CIA director John Ratcliffe and the Director of the National Intelligence Service Tulsi Gabbard for his daily intelligence meetings.
“One thing that makes this administration unique is that the president and small circle of advisers who are really important and make decisions,” said Brian Katulis, a former NSC official at the Institute of Middle East. “They simply do not see the need for liquid interreser meetings as in previous administrations.”
Katulis added that the biggest risk is not necessarily a lack of intelligence – but a lack of coordination.
“Instead of intervals in Intel or knowledge, I would care more if different agencies sang from the same music newspaper,” he said.
Fox News Digital addressed the White House for commenting on Friday and their intention.

Others claim that NSC has become inflated and needs reset.
“The NSC under democratic presidents is growing to 300, 400 people,” said former Trump NSC official Alex Gray. “It becomes its own department.”
“When I was there, we demolished him at about 110 people involved in politics – and that could probably fall 50 more and still be effective,” he said.
“Do you want a NSC that formulates and directs politics or the one who gives the president’s advice, allows him to decide, and then he does it? You don’t need hundreds of people to do so.”
However, the NSC is the main agency in charge of ensuring that other agencies are in accordance with the president’s daily order.
“Instead of preparing opportunities for him, they should go in his direction and spend it,” Coates said. But, she added, “If you demolish it too far, it will not have the workforce to implement these instructions from the White House to departments and agencies that are always larger and better funded by NSC.”

“How many heads do you have to connect them to make them do what the president wants them to do? Our experience was in the first term that we needed a pretty amount at our area to make them do things they didn’t want, like IRGC as FTO, for example,” Coates added.
Even with lean staff, NSC remains responsible for managing critical global challenges – from Iranian nuclear talks and war in Ukraine to military competition with China.
This sets extra pressure on Rubio, which will be guilty if any key intelligence goes through cracks.
“The big question is that national security counselor must ensure that the president has all the necessary information to make a decision,” Allen said.
