We met the PoliceKing Charles is deeply saddened by the death of a British man who was killed in a car crash in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, the palace says.
Edward Pettifer, 31, who was among the 14 people killed in the attack, is believed to be the stepson of Alexandra Pettifer, known as Tiggy, who looked after Prince William and Prince Harry when they were children.
The monarch contacted Mr Pettifer’s family to express his grief, palace sources told the BBC.
Paying tribute, Mr Pettifer’s family described him as “a wonderful son, brother, nephew, niece and great friend”.
The January 1 attack saw a 42-year-old US soldier drive a pickup truck down New Orleans’ famous Bourbon Street before being shot dead by police.
The New Orleans coroner ruled Pettifer’s death as “accidental blunt force trauma,” the PA reported.
The Prince of Wales has been informed of Mr Pettifer’s death, Kensington Palace said.
Prince Harry will not comment publicly on the news.

Two live ammunition were also found nearby, according to police.
A famous American college football player, an aspiring young nurse and the mother of a four-year-old child is among those affected.
At least 39 people were also injured during the attack, which took place in the city’s French Quarter – a busy nightlife area frequented by locals and tourists – at around 03:15 (09:15 GMT) on Wednesday.
Some of the injured have been released from the hospital – but more than a dozen remain, some receiving treatment in the ICU.
Mr. Pettifer, of Chelsea, London, was he was named by the Metropolitan Police as one of the victims Saturday morning.
His family said in a statement that they were “devastated by the tragic news of Ed’s death in New Orleans”.
We will all miss him dearly, our thoughts are with the other families who have lost loved ones to this terrible attack.
“We would like to express our sincere condolences to Ed as a family. Thank you.”
In a statement, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office said it was supporting the Pettifer family.
