Darin Ruf played the first base for Milwaukee Brewers June 2, 2023 in the game against the Central NL rival Cincinnati Reds. He knew a little that it would be the last game of his career.
In the third inning, Ruf chased a jumping window in the territory badly, when his knee collapsed at the end of the field of field. Ruf cut the knee poorly and flew off the field with the help of a coach.

Ruf’s complaint says that the end of the tar roller is made of sharp metal and did not have a protective pillow or cap. The TV show of the game said there was a “significant piece of metal … which doesn’t give much.”
Ruf went to a 60-day injured list and never played again in the main leagues.
His initial injury, besides separation, has ruled the unpaid fracture of his patella. But according to Ruf’s appeal, he suffered “permanent and significant deformities in the knee.”
“That didn’t have to happen,” Ruf said in a statement. “I wish that did not happen. The players should not worry about such hidden dangers on the Major League field.”

“This was an obvious and risk that could be avoided,” said Thomas, a Ruf -Laner lawyer, in a statement announcing the lawsuit. “There are basic safety protocols that every MLB team should follow. Leave a unprecedented metal roller on the edge of the field is unforgivable.”
The reds did not immediately respond to the comment request.
The situation is similar Dustin Fowler’s. He injured his knee in Chicago in his 2017 main league debut after running into an electric box while chasing a pop fly. Fowler, who would lead the next inning for his first appearance on the board in the majorettes, sued White Sox for being careless.
Yankees traded him about a month after the injury to Sonny Gray, and Fowler’s first MLB hit Gray next year.
Ruf, 38, played in majorettes from 2012 to 2023 with Philadelphia Phillies (2012-16), San Francisco Giants (2020-22, 2023), New York Mets (2022) and Brewers (2023). He supported .239 with .329 percent, 67 domestic and 205 RBI in 582 career games.

At the time of the injury, Ruf played in his 11th game with the Brewers after playing in nine games at the second break with the Giantim. San Francisco designated him for award before joining Milwaukee.
