Vladimir Putin said he was “ready to work” with Kiev in the future peace talks to end Ukraine’s war, but did not outline any stable change in Kremlin’s position after a call with Donald Trump.
Speaking on Monday after a two -hour call, the Russian President said that Moscow was ready to work in a memorandum to frame the future discussion, which may include “for a specific period”.
He told a state media reporter that the conversation with Trump was “very clear and so very useful”. However, he did not announce any major change in Russia’s position on the Ukraine war.
“We have agreed with the US President that Russia will propose and is ready to work with the Ukrainian parties in the memorandum about the possible peace agreement of the future,” Putin said.
Trump spoke to Ukraine’s President Vloadimir Jensky on a separate phone call at the beginning of the day.
Russian President’s comments came a week after refusing to participate in peace talks with Ukraine in Turkey, telling Trump that he and Russia’s president had “nothing happening”.
Trump indicated the desire to meet Putin for discussion in Turkey.
On Monday, the Russian President said that the memorandum would include “a peace agreement that would be based on a peace agreement, during a possible peace agreement” and “Possible ceasefire for a certain period of time when a specific agreement arrived.”
However, Putin added that the main purpose of Russia was to “eliminate the main causes of this crisis”, indicating that the original claims of the language remain unchanged.
Diplomatic efforts to end the conflict have been accelerated in recent weeks, Russia and Ukraine have discussed directly in Istanbul on Friday, their first since the start of the three -year war.
Trump ended the war on the first day in his second term, but peace has proved that both sides are still far away.
Leaders in European capitals fear that Trump can spend an agreement with Putin that claims to his maximum demand and sells Ukraine’s interests in his hurry to end the fight.
