In the midst of controversy, PGA of America announced a statement.
“We can confirm that the USGA was called to test the club at the PGA Championship, at the request of the PGA of America,” The statement read in part. “This testing program is in accordance with the same level of support provided by PGA Tour and other championships, as part of their regular driver test programs. The standard procedure is to test around a third of the field randomly within the program. This was the case in Quail. Time.”
Scheffler won PGA Championship on Sunday to earn a third major career victory.
