The Federal Reserve says they want to be a “responsible steward of public assets” as they will reduce their workforce by 10 percent in the coming years.
Feed Chair Jay Powell said through an internal email seen by the Financial Times that he “directed the Federal Reserve Board and its network” to find the growing ways to integrate the functions where suitable, to modernize some business practices and to ensure that we are able to fulfill the right size and our statutory mission. ”
He added: “Over the next few years, the level of our overall staff will decrease by about 10 percent from today.”
The Federal Reserve Board of Washington appoints about 3,000 people, and the entire system has 24,000 employees.
The decision of the central bank comes at a time when the President Donald TrumpThe administration of the administration has called for a steep cut to spend on government agencies. The President has repeatedly hit Fed in recent weeks to break his interest rate reduction cycle, calling Powell “fool”.
Elon Kasturi, whose so -called Government Skill Department (Dosage) is leading the expense cut drive, has earlier said that the fed was “irrelevantly”. However, Fed’s plans were decided in the agency and according to a person familiar with this subject, the direction of the Dog was not created.
Powell told his employees in his notes, which was first reported by Bloomberg that “Fed” would provide a “volunteer suspension resignation program to fully qualified staff to retire from December 31, 2027”.
The offer of voluntary resignation is applicable only to the employees of the Governor Board, although the 10 percent reduction will apply across the Federal Reserve system, which includes 12 regional banks.
Powell Fed said, “As a cautious and responsible steward of public assets”, its budgets needed to ensure that it was “mission-driven”.
“The experience here and elsewhere shows that any organization on behalf of any organization is healthy to look after its staff and resources,” she mentioned a similar campaign in 1997. The official -led effort to reduce federal staffing was also the last time.
Powell added, “I believe it is time to do it again in the same sincere and deliberate consciousness.”
