Water plate on 2025. PGA Championship is for some scratching of the head, but the challenge of the Quail Hollow Club could be perfectly summed up on one hole with which the three first three golfers in the world fought during Thursday in the opening.
Scottie SchefflerRory Mcilory and Xander Schauffele were ranked one to three on the world’s official golf course, and all ended with a double foot on 4-4, 535 yards in their introductory rounds.

After his circle, Scheffler told reporters that the terrible “mud ball” was the cause of his accident at the 16th hole.
“This is one of those contracts where it is frustrating to hit the ball in the middle of the fruit and get mud and has no idea where it will go,” he told reporters. “I understand that it is part of the game, but the player has nothing more frustrating.
“You spend your whole life trying to learn how to control the ball for golf, and because of the decision on the rules, you suddenly have absolutely no control over what that golf ball goes. But I don’t bring rules. I have to deal with the consequences of those rules.”
The three of them were not the only top golfers who fought on Thursday to understand the hollow quail. Bryson Dechambemau (1-Preko), Max Homa (2-Over), Jordan Spieth (3-Over) and Brooks Koeka (4-Over) all fought to find a slot. Phil Mickelson even cartorated 8-Over 79, which will be almost impossible to descend before cutting on Friday.

Not everyone had the same experience. American Ryan Gerard led most of the day after shooting at 5-Ispod 66. Australian Cam Davis, entering the club house with the same result, although he could lead a 6-point, if not for the last hole.
