French film star Gérard Departieu was found guilty of sexual abuse of two women on the set of the film in which he played, and the Paris court received an 18-month prison sentence on Tuesday.
He was also fined with a total of 29,040 euros (about $ 32,350), and the court requested that it be registered at a national database on a sex offender.
The 76-year-old actor was condemned that he had been knocking on a 54-year-old dresser and a 34-year-old assistant during the filming “Les Volets Verts” (“Green Rollers”) 2021. The case was widely considered a key post-metho test that the French society and its film industry deal with penetration in sexual investments.

Dardieu, who denied the charges, did not attend a hearing in Paris. Depardieu’s lawyer said his client would complain about the decision.
“It’s the victory of two women, but it’s the victory of all women outside this trial,” said Carine Durrie Diebolt, lawyer Set Dresser. “Today we hope that we will see the end of unpunction for the artist in the world of cinemas. I do not think with this decision we can no longer say that he is not a sex abuser. Even today, as the Cannes Film Festival opens, I would like the film world to spare thoughts for the victims of Gérard Deardieu.”

Accused more than 20 women
Dardieu’s long and historical career – he told the court that he had made more than 250 films – turned into a French film giant. Oscar nominated in 1991 because of his appearance as a swordsman and poet Cyrano de Bergerac.
In recent years, the actor has accused more than 20 women publicly or in formal complaints of misconduct, but so far he is only a case of a sexual attack on court. Some other cases are rejected due to lack of evidence or limitations.
During the four -day trial in March, Depardieu rejected the accusations, saying he was “not like that.” He admitted that he used a vulgar and sexualized language on the film set and that he grabbed the Komoda set during an altercation, but denied that his behavior was sexual.

The court, composed of a council of three judges, concluded that the departed explanations in the court were “unseen” and “are not credible” and emphasized the “permanent, repeated and grounded Declaration of the Accused”.
The court also said that both prosecutors were facing a “aggressive” defense strategy “based on the comments that were supposed to offend.” The judges, therefore, believed that the comments of lawyer departed in court had worsened the damage to the accused and justified the greater fines.
The departed lawyer, Jérémie Asseous, regretted that the court “felt that the charges were examined by an additional attack … which means that now the defense, even in this type of trial, is no longer accepting.”

Two defendants testified in court
The Komoda set described the alleged attack, saying that the actor had pierced her between his legs as she passed him into a narrow hallway.
She said he grabbed her with her hips, then started “palpation” behind and “in front,” she drove her hands near the buttocks, hips and a pubic area to show what she allegedly experienced. She said he grabbed her chest.
The woman also testified that Depardieu used an obscene expression to ask her to touch his penis and suggested that she wanted to rape her. She told the court that the acting calm and collaborative attitude during the trial had no resemblance to his behavior at work.

Another prosecutor, assistant, said Dardidieu had knocked the buttocks and breasts during three separate incidents on the movie set.
Associated press is not identified by the name of people who say they were sexually attacked if they did not agree to appoint. No woman did so in this case, even though someone agreed that they would be in the picture.
“I am very moved,” one of the prosecutors, a Komoda set, told reporters after the verdict. “I’m very, very pleased with the decision, it’s for me, it’s a victory, and a big progress, a step forward. I feel justice made.”

Some expressed support for departedieu
Some figures in the French cinema world expressed their support from the departedieu. Actors Vincent Perez and Fanny Ardant were among those sitting on his side of the courtroom.
The French media reported last week that Depardieu was filming a movie directed by Ardant in the Azores archipelago, Portugal.
The actor will soon have to face another legal procedure.
In 2018, actor Charlotte Arnold accused him of raping her in his home. This case is still active, and in August 2024. The prosecutors asked to go to the trial.
Dardieu stood for more than half a century as a high figure in the French cinema, Titan known for his command of physical presence, instinct, sensibility and extraordinary versatility.
