The earthquake in Croatia has led to a chain of events that helped archaeologists recently discover the ancient Roman theater, the officials say.
The Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media announced the finding – which was discovered in the City of Sisak – in a statement for the public in April.
The Roman Theater, also known as Odeon, was found during the renovation of the Sisak City Hall on a street called – unbounded – novel Street.

The theater orchestra was found in the basement of the building.

The Ministry described the structure as an apse, which means that it reminds of semicircular or polygonal recess, consists of “three parallel rows of stone blocks, with an internal diameter of twenty meters.”
“In later periods, a monumental building with an attic at the top of this building was built, which required additional research in the town hall of the City Hall for interpretation,” said a statement translated from Croatian into English.

City Hall, built in 1914, was “significantly damaged” during 2020. Landscapes in Croatia – and the renovation of the building was led by archaeologists to the Roman orchestra.
“The renovation has renewed the original color, the design of the mainstay of the entrance and the original look of the main gable,” the statement added.

“All preserved decorative elements have been renovated, and the original paving is presented in front of the entrance to the City Hall itself.”
The officials praised the discovery, calling it “extremely valuable finding.”

“This … provides a new insight into the size of the ancient city and further complements the interpretation of the urbanism of ancient Sisak,” the Ministry said.

“It was presented at the City Hall, which was fully renewed with the funds provided by the Ministry of Culture and the Media after the earthquake.”
The discovery indicates one of many ancient Roman Found in Europe in recent weeks.
