Bill Maher praised comedian Tony Hinchcliffe for a viral joke from Puerto Rico, which he made at a gathering in October 2024 for the then presidential candidate Donald Trump It angered some politicians and media.

Hinchcliffe explained the story behind the joke that was amazed by the medium.

Maher said, “There is no doubt that it is offensive to the Puerto Rican, but I was in the same territory. I mean, I don’t think I would have done this joke, but I certainly did many who were complaining.”
Maher defended Hinchcliffe, saying, “My thing was always, you know what? Everyone has to accept, within the comedy, insults … you know, and they are never fair.”
Hinchcliffe explained his thought process that entered the rally.
“When I came in to do it, that rally, a goal, you know? It wasn’t just a few, you know, a thousand votes, hopefully, whoever listens to my Podcast or who loved my silly appearance on Tom Brady or anything. Trump’s campaign also quickly distanced herself from a joke.
“This joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign,” said the senior advisor of Trump’s campaign Danielle Alvarez in a statement, according to reports.
Hinchcliffe and Trump’s campaign have been criticized in the media for jokes and there were concerns that this would affect Trump’s election chances and support within the Latin American community.
According to National output surveys, Trump received 45% support from Latin American voters, which is an increase in the amount of 2020, when he received 32%.
