Pope Leo XIV celebrates the first mass as a pontif

“For him, in his short remark, he is to say that we have to be a synodal church, it is a great signal that he intends to continue most of what Pope Francis is,” he said about Pope Leo XIV.

“In a way, it may be different from Francis,” Doyle said. “Francis did some things that alienated the traditionalists.”

Pope Leo XIII is often known for writing the first of the great Catholic social encyclicals, Rerum Novarum.

Doyle said that Catholic social teaching is generally engaged in basic human principles on economy and society with an interpretation space.
“I think he’ll be a very balanced pope,” Doyle said.
