But Skenes said the managerial change would not do much because it is ultimately on the players.

“Just how it goes. I don’t know if it’s repairing the root of the problem. We just have to play better,” he added.

“Derek worked incredibly hard and sacrificed for a lot of five and more years. His family became a large part of the Pirates family, and we will miss it,” Pirates General General Ben Cherington said in a statement. “He is an incredibly smart, curious and guided leader of baseball. I believe he was the right person for a job when he was hired. I also believe that change is now needed. I want Derek and his family all the best in the next chapter.”

Coach of the bench pirate Don Kelly He was appointed Shelton’s replacement.

We have to do better. I know that. Ben knows that. Our coaches know that. Our players know that.

“There is a lot of baseball to play. We have to act with a sense of urgency and take steps needed to repair it to get back on our way as a team and an organization.”
