Minister of Defense Pete Hegsetth announced on Monday that Our army They will soon see a dramatic reduction in the number of general officers in all branches.

The reduction called the “historical” move to be fulfilled President Donald Trump dedication to “achieving peace with power.”

“We will transfer the resources from the bloated elements of the seat to our warriors,” Hegsetth said.

According to Hegseth, there are currently 44 44 stars and flag officers, which forms the ratio of one general to 1,400 soldiers, compared to the ratio during World War II from one general up to 6,000 soldiers.

Hegsetth, who pledged to turn the army into a “lean, more deadly force,” he issued a letter to the elderly Pentagon staff On Monday, in which he ordered to reduce the two stages.

In the first phase of Hegsetth, he ordered the “minimum” 20 percent reduction of a four-star general and an active component official, as well as a 20 percent decrease in in National Guard.

In the second phase, the Secretary orders an additional 10 -long decrease in the general flag officers throughout the army.

In the video that announced the change, he said that the reduction would be done “carefully, but it will be accelerated.”

He noted that “this is not an exercise of hair and burning that means punishing high officers,” but a “thoughtful process, working with common chiefs for one purpose: maximizing strategic willingness and operational efficiency by making prudent reduction.”

“We have to be thin and wicked. And in this case it means a reduction in the general officer,” Hegsetth said.

Congress sets the number of general officers allowed in the military. The total number of general or flag officials is limited to 219 for the military, 150 for the Navy, 171 for airline forces, 64 for Marine Corps and 21 for space force.
