Elias called Trump a “walking embodiment of everything that is wrong with the US political system” and suggested that the rule of the law is in danger if these executive orders are. Without that, Elias claimed, Trump could take over other institutions.
“That’s why the business community should worry,” Elias said. “It could be today that, you know, Donald Trump thinks he can take over the electoral system one of his executive orders. Tomorrow, maybe it’s the banking system. After that, it may be contracts. Maybe it will decide which contracts will bind, which contracts are not binding.”
He added: “Therefore, the legal system is fundamental to the functioning of our society, as capitalism works and everyone should have a stake in this.”
Donald Ayer, a former deputy Attorney General under President George HW Bush, also called Trump’s command “a direct attack on the overall functioning of our judicial system,” and at risk is the whole system of government.

Another lawyer, a San Francisco lawyer John Keker, spoke of his endeavor to hire a law firm to oppose and dispute Trump’s executive commands, saying that an alternative could result in dictatorship.
“It happened in China. It happened in Russia. These are legal systems that look like legal systems, but actually control dictatorship,” Keker said.
