Dick Barnett, Basketball Hall of Fame and All-Star that won the NBA Championship with New York KnicksHe died, the team announced on Sunday.
He was 88 years old.
Gary, Indiana, the native was the fifth choice in the 1959 Divine from Tennessee A&I. He started his career with Syracuse Nationals, played three seasons with Los Angeles Lakers He eventually played for nine years with Knicks from 1965 to 1974.

“Through his famous career, Dick Barnett embodied everything that meant that New York Knick, both on and off the field,” Knicks said in a statement. “He has left a positive impact on everyone he has encountered, and this organization is incredibly fortunate that it will be such an integral part of its history.
“His jersey will forever hang himself in the rafts of Madison Square Garden, and his game during his career will forever be part of the Knicks fans.”
Barnett was part of the Tennessee A & I dynasty, which won three direct championships in Naia in 1957. The school is known today as Tennessee State.

He was part of the 1970 Knicks team that beat the Lakers in seven games to win the championship. On average, he had 14.9 points and 3.6 assists of that season. He played with Willis Reed, Walt Frazier and Dave Debusschere.
In 1973, Knicks won the Lakers again – this time in five games. At that moment, he was mostly a bench player in his career. Frazier, Debusschere and Bill Bradley led the team in scoring.
He finished his career with 15.8 points by average and 9,442 total points with Knicks. The ninth is on the KNIKKS career scoring list, and his jersey number 12 was withdrawn in 1990.

Barnett was introduced in Hall of Fame as a player of 2024.
