“I didn’t feel it was mine, you know – at the time we started calling because we didn’t think we would be witnesses at the murder trial,” Becker replied. “We were there to support Karen and eventually take her to the hospital.”
Alan Jackson, one of Read’s defenders, questioned whether Read’s statement could have had a different context, something she said through the speech post office or earlier in the evening.

“No,” Becker said.

“Has she ever said if she believed or not to get her last words from her?” Jackson asked.
“There were no other details,” Becker said. He also testified that he did not ask her what her “last words” O’Keefe were.
“But it is – when she talked to you about the last words about him – she actually took out the phone and at the same time showed you a crowd of missed calls, right?”
“She tried, yes,” he said.

“No,” Becker replied.
