Minister of Defense Pete Hegsetth He may have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan – but now he is facing another battle: this time on his home lawn in Pentagon.
The controversy has been tormented by Hegsetth since Trump for the first time he was appointed to serve as a defense minister, from a sexual assault and a drinking allegation, up to two debachates of signal chats, and OP-ed who suggests that Hegsetth could be on the way out.
The new controversy of the signal, together with the OP-ed, are only the latest blows in what Trump’s administration claims to be in durable effort against Heget as a defense minister and date from his nomination.
The examination increased after the New York Times Sunday report stated that Hegsetth distributed information on a military air attack in March against Houthis in a sign of signal apps that also included his wife, brother and personal lawyer.
This incident follows a similar episode in March, when the Atlantic editor -in -chief Jeffrey Goldberg added to Chat signal group together with Hegseth, Vice -President Jd vance and others, to talk about the same attack on Houtis.

While the White House continues to support Hegsetth, a series of democratic coalitions and more deputies are Calling for Hegseth’s resignation.
Member of the Senate Armed Forces Committee, Senator Jack Reed, Dr.I., invites the General Inspector of Pentagon to launch an investigation into recent Citing chat signal.
“Since he was nominated, I warned that Mr. Hegset was lacking in experience, competences and character for the leadership of the Ministry of Defense. In the light of current chaos, dysfunction and mass shootings under the guidance of Mr. Hegsetha, these complaints seemed to be well established,” Reed said on Sunday. “The responsibility begins from the top, and I have serious concerns about the ability to Hegsetha secretaries to maintain the confidence and trust of members of the US service.”
In the meantime, Vance told reporters on Wednesday that he believed Hegsetth was doing a “great job”.
In response to the video of the post on the X Vance, which issues comments, the Pentaton team for a quick response replied: “We will not be stopped. We will not turn away.”
Although the defense secretaries historically received two -sided support in Senate, the Upper Komora did not issue broad support for the Hegseth nomination.
The Senate confirmed Hegsetth along the party lines in January, and all 47 Democrats opposed his nomination.
Each senator, except Kirsten Gillibrand, Dn.y., voted the confirmation of Trump’s first defense minister in 2017, retired seafood General Jim Mattis. Also, in 2019, the Senate voted on a 90-8 margin to confirm Trump’s second Minister of Defense, Mark Espera.
Hegsetth shared details about Yemen in another signal conversation: report

Former US defense secretary James Mattis, Trump’s first defense minister, received a wide two -party Senate support during the certificate procedure.
Hegsetth was first under fire as charges of sexual abuse that led to his certificate appeared. For example, he told the legislators in written answers during the confirmation procedure that he had paid $ 50,000 as part of a payment to a woman who accused him of sexual abuse of 2017. Police reports on the incident says a woman claimed that Hegethal had attacked her in a hotel room, overwhelmed her phone and blocked her phone.
Hegsetth told the legislators that the woman had “falsely accused him.”
Hegsetth also faced accusations of alcohol abuse during the certificate procedure. In response, Hegsetth told the legislators that he was not a “perfect person”, but said he was the subject of “a coordinated campaign to delete orchestrated in the media.”
The controversy has not left Hegsetth since the Senate confirmed it in January.
Hegsets role in the original signal chat involving Atlantic editor -in -chief, Goldberg, appeared in the spotlight in March after the initial report. Nevertheless, a team of national security advisers Mike Waltz was responsible for chat creation.
Hegsetth said they did not talk about “war plans” and in the initial signal conversation with Goldberg and the one with his wife. In addition, he said that all the discussions were taken over the signal were unclassified.
“I said repeatedly, no one agrees war plans,” Hegsetth told Fox News on Tuesday. “I look at war plans every day. What was divided through the signal then and now, as much as it characterized, were informal, unclassified coordination, for media coordination and other things.
Pentagon staff shooting also illuminated Hegseth’s leadership.
John Ullyot, a former Pentagon Communications Officer who stepped down from his place under Hegseth in April, wrote that the abrupt shooting of the three Hegets “most loyal” advisers was alarming and “confusing”. Hegsetsh assistant Dan Caldwell, his deputy chief Darin Selnick and head of the Deputy Minister of Defense Colin Carroll, were overthrown.
“Dysfunction is now the main distraction of the president-it deserves better than its higher leadership,” Ullyot wrote on Sunday for Politico.
“Trump has a strong record of holding his best officials to count. In view of this, it is difficult to see the Minister of Defense of the Fifth Hegsetth, which remains in his role for even longer.”
Support for Hegseth also cracks in Trump’s own party. For example, Ambassador Don Bacon, a former Air Force General who served on the Home Armed Forces Committee, said Politico on Monday that Hegsetth was an “amateur person” and did not believe that Hegsetth had experience to lead a pentagon. These concerns began from “beginning,” said Bacon, a Republican from Nebraska.

For example, he reported on Monday that the White House was watching a new defense minister. The story was based on an anonymous American official who was not authorized to talk to the media.
Meanwhile, the White House pushed the allegations that it was replacing Hegsetth.

“He brings a monumental change to the Pentagon, and there are a lot of people who reject the monumental change in the city, and I think that, sincerely, we have seen a campaign of smearing against the Minister of Defense from the moment when President Trump announced his nomination before the Senate of the United States,” the Caroline White House said on Tuesday.
“Let me reiterate: the president is strongly behind the hegsetth secretary -a change he brings to the Pentagon and the results he has achieved so far speeches for himself,” Leavitt said.
