Harvard sues Trump administration over ‘unlawful’ $2.2 billion funding freeze

Harvard University filed a lawsuit against Trump’s administration for its “unlawful” budget reduction by more billions of dollars to financing a school research.

“A few moments ago, we filed a lawsuit to stop freezing funds because it is illegal and beyond Government powers,” Harvard President Alan Garber wrote in the post on X.

The move comes just a day after Trump’s administration allegedly planned to reduce another billion dollars of federal scholarships and a contract to a university, with a reduction of $ 2.2 billion announced last week, Harvard Crimson first reported.

“The kit placed on Harvard and other universities is clear: Allow the Government to manage the academic institution or threaten the ability to continue medical breakthroughs, scientific discoveries and innovative solutions,” Harvard wrote on Monday.

In a 51 -page complaint, obtained by Outlet, Harvard accused Trump’s administration of illegally freezing billions of research funding to press the University of the restructuring of its management, academic programs and employment practice.

The appeal claims that freezing violates the first amendment “by imposing conditions based on the Harvard financing views.”

In a recent post on social media, Trump claimed that Harvard had “lost his way” and did not deserve federal financing.

“Harvard employed almost all the awakened, radical left, idiots and ‘bird brains’ that are capable of teaching only the failure of students and the so -called” future leaders, “Trump wrote. “Just look at the recent past in their plagiated president, who so embarrassed Harvard before the Congress of the United States.

“Harvard is a joke, learns hatred and nonsense and should no longer receive federal means.”
