A leader’s job is to make bold decisions, even if it is not popular. That’s what happened two years ago when I announced that the capital staff return to work full-time at our New York and London Office.
Tech and financial companies lead to Office-Office fees-from Goldman Sachs to more recent campaigns byAndy Jasya on Amazonand jpmorgan chase’s Jamie Dimon. I thought a lot would like to Disagree with my decisionthe others very. That’s good. I do not claim to find the formula for all companies. But almost two years of, this is the most clear to me: We’re better when we are together.
We have lost many candidates because of our policy, and we’re okay with that – it says so much Values of our company statement that we are not for everyone. Capitolis is a company of more than 150 people and continues to grow. With over 10 million people living in New York City area, we look for valuers and seek full-time, face to face for each open paper we seek to fill. For those who do not buy work from the office – this is not the right place. However our business growth, productivity, and 2% unwanted turnover last year tell me it’s working.
However for all our successes, returning to the full office time not when no blindness. I was asked, “Don’t you trust us? We work hard at the time of the pandemic, and it works.” I am warned to fail us to attractMillennial or Gen Z employee valuing life balanceand that we struggle to compete with firms offering flexible policies to work. I understood the desire to avoid commuting, or even in the pants, and I get that many people can make efficient work from home. I consider these arguments. I have a chance to try work-from home magic pill, and I don’t buy.
In my decades working at the office, I saw the amount of human interaction to make the best of all. Each day, there are many times to meet other people’s people, with clients, incorrect meetings and conversations, strong ideas that arise. Have a buzz, a force, not feeling zooming; This is a great backup, but virtual meetings are to line up, timing, tight, and not all organic.
Face facial standards lead to conversations, carrying relationships – and build strong teams. New, junior employees never know the opportunities to learn from more experienced team members if they are not physically heavy, listening to what conversations have done. Mentorships form organically if people connect. Personally.
If the covid-19 healing of ours, we have made good companies. But we don’t have a pandemic. And evidence suggests during work-from home,Working hours increases while output and productivity reducedand employees who are networking fewer individuals and teams.
Many jobs can be made from the table in your kitchen. But for me, the cost of the left of the same physical space is very high. Well you can do. You can do too. But you can’t stop your potential to be better than you can. That’s what I enjoyed, with my partners and partners in the capitolis. I am not talking about individual recovery but seeking for greatness as a team.
In our episode of Hyper-Growth-Growth and fast product development, we need to go well together. If you are at home, your partners are not nearly as they can. I know I’m not good. The wisest superstar in the world working remote is less valuable for me than someone i can talk to my way to the kitchen office.
We support parents to bring their children to the doctor, exit or work from home to attend parents’ conferences, or other celebrations. That’s the policy of all my companies in the past 25 years, well before Hybrid work has entered the Zeitgeist. But in most days, I need to have office people in the office: together, Team Building, holding each other, and push each other to be better.
If, like me, (and like many business leaders I’m talking about), you want your office teams, I strongly recommend that you follow it. Don’t be afraid: make difficult decisions. You can lose some peopleBut you will find others, and they are the righteous. And moments are, you are better, better working all the same. I know we’re in Capitolis.
