Navy veteran who beat CNN sues Associated Press

US Navy veteran Zachary Young, which Successfully sues CNN For defamation earlier this year, he filed a defamation lawsuit against the Associated Press on Friday because of the “article that went even more than the false CNN”.

Young people successfully claimed that CNN was smearing him, implying that he had illegally profited when helping people to flee to Afghanistan on the “black market” during the military withdrawal of the Bidan army from the country 2021. In January, six personally owed a $ 4 million in earnings, which was Jamni against personal damage and that pain. The settlement was reached before the jury decided to compensate.

AP Media reporter David Bauder wrote that “Young’s job helped smuggle people from Afghanistan” when covering the CNN trial of the January 2025. This line did not sit well from the Navy veterans and took legal lawsuits over it.

In the Court for the application received by Fox News Digital, Young’s lawyer, Daniel Lustig, wrote that “AP sharply accused Mr. Young of dealing with criminal smuggling of man.”

“In his article, AP published a slander statement, with real wickedness, that Mr. Young’s job” helped smuggle people from Afghanistan. “That statement is categorically false.

“Describing Mr. Young evacuation of rescue as a” smuggling “is not only a rough misconception, it accuses Mr. Young in a serious crime. Covering human smuggling under US law and is convicted as a serious crime under international law,” the lawsuit continues. “Defending Mr. Young of smuggling people, AP effectively marked him a criminal.”

The lawsuit claims that AP used the term “smuggling” in dozens of previous articles to “describe clear criminal behavior such as trafficking, drugs and transnational crime.”

“The AP decision to apply the same criminal label to the prosecutor-in-law’s law and court acts-he complains about the false or reckless disrespect of the truth. AP knew exactly what the phrase and the word” smuggling “meant,” Young’s lawyer wrote.

“AP has not issued any withdrawal or correction. His false accusation continues to spread around the world via the AP network, Mr. Young’s reputation is devastating and injuring the prosecutor’s job,” the lawsuit continues. “He has already struggled to clean his name once, Mr. Young is now forced to sue another main media entrance.”

Young believes that AP has acted with real wickedness and is looking for “compensation more than $ 50,000.00, without interest, costs and law fees,” the application is submitted.

Young people are likely to change a lawsuit to add criminal damage.

“Basically, AP -‘s slander statement applied another blow to the reputation and trade of the plaintiff, deteriorating the damage CNN had already inflicted on the report,” Young’s lawyer wrote.

“AP is responsible for defamation by implication because the publication, taken as a whole, would reasonably make the readers get a false and slandular conclusion about Mr. Young. AP has acted with the actual malice in the publication of this implication, or at least negligible, as is detailed,” the lawsuit continued. “AP knew that the implication was false, that is, Mr. Young was not a criminal smuggler.

Associated Press did not immediately respond to the comment request.
