In the morning, October 7, 2023, my family woke up with the lush sounds of siren in Rehovot, a city only 15 miles from Tel Aviv.
As thousands of rockets were raining at Israel, reports began to appear It falls under the guidance of Hamas In the Israeli community along the border of Gaza, accompanied by a video with a live arrow of terrorists showing a horrific massacre.
My son, 19-year-old Nimrod Cohen, served in Israeli defense forces as a tanker of tanks near Gaza. As the hours passed without any word from him, I turned to the social media to collect more information. Then I came across a video on YouTube containing Hamas terrorists who skipped the burning tank. Nimrod was lying on the ground, he was taken helpless by an armed terrorist.

On that day, 1,200 people were tortured, silo and slaughtered, and 247 people were taken as a hostage. Nimrod, who is now 20, remains among the 59 hostages still held in Gaza.
We later learned that three other soldiers were in Nimrod’s tank – CPT. Omer neutra, sgt. Objection dahan and sgt. Oz Daniel – They were killed on that black Saturday, leaving him as the only survivor.
My family has spent the last 18 months in painful uncertainty. We traveled the globe to raise awareness of the state of our son and other hostages trapped in a complex network of tunnels built with a hamas under the gaza belt. It is tragic that we now know that 41 hostages have died while they were captured, seven recovered military operations, and in 147 they were released through an agreement on a tribute. Although it hurts us to conclude such an agreement that would lead to the release of terrorists from Israeli prison, it is a victim we are willing to do.

Thanks to the president’s efforts Donald Trump And American special envoy Steve Witkoff, an overbuilding agreement ended earlier this year, allowing the publication of some hostages. Two hostages released during the first phase of the tribute confirmed that Nimrod was still alive. Tragically, we got heart details: he was chained, tortured and held in a cage. His mental health has worsened and suffers from skin disease and ear infection due to lack of medical care.

Despite all his pain and suffering, my Nimrod told those liberated hostages to convey a simple message to his family, “I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. I love you.”
In the Jewish tradition, each individual is considered a universe to themselves. This certificate is deeply embedded in Israeli ethoswhich emphasizes the importance of securing that no one is left behind. Therefore, when the Fire Interruption Agreement overthrew and hostility conquered last month, we were devastated because it meant that Nimrod’s life was still in balance, provided that the whim was an unstable and unpredictable conflict.
The United States has long been considered the leader of the free world. I ask Trump’s administration to remain a course and continue to apply diplomatic pressure on all parties involved, so that our family, the Nation of Israel – and all those who believe in freedom – can begin to treat suffering caused by this brutal war.

Nimrod Cohen poses next to the wax character of President Donald Trump at Madame Tussauds Museum during his family trip to London, when he was a teenager. (The kindness of the Cohen family)
When Nimrod was a teenager, he visited Madame Tussauds Museum in London. We photographed Nimroda next to the wax character of President Trump. I pray that one day I can soon photograph my Nimrod with a leader that I believe can end his suffering and bring this devastating conflict.
