Perhaps the biggest story coming from August’s National Golf Club this week is Angel Cabrera, 2009 Masters The winner who plays in spite of multiple beliefs for threats and harassment of two of his former girls.
Cabrera spent almost two years in prison in Brazil and Argentina before being released in probation in August 2023. Was later cleaned to play in Pga tour Champion events later that year.
Cabrera asked reporters if he “deserved” to play at this year’s masters given his time spent in prison for his crime.

“I won masters,” Cabrera said through New York Post. “Why not?”
Regardless of the age or ranking on the world stage, the winners of the masters receive exemptions for the lifelong news for playing in the tournament every year, and Cabrera takes advantage of it.

He also attended the annual dinner of the champion on Tuesday night after training.
“Life has given me another opportunity,” he added. “I have to use it and do the right things on this other occasion. I obviously regret the things that happened, and you learn from them.”
Cabrera has won her first golf tournament since he was released from prison, picking up the James Hardie Pro Football Hall of Fame Invitational, who is PGA Tour Champions. He shot 11 below, to draw a victory over KJ Choi and Retief Goosen.

“Everything I’ve been through over the last few years, being here, having a chance to win is very emotional,” he said after winning.
Although many are referring to Augusta National Golf Club for allowing Cabrera to play, there are some who are excited to see him, such as the 2013 Masters winner Adam Scott.
“It’s a happy thing for me. We have a pretty long history,” Scott said about Cabrira on Sunday before Masters Week. “I first met him on a European tour before we were both at PGA Tour. We played the presidential cup, we were partners.”
