A group of universities, many of which receive significant funding, could soon rebel the president Donald Trump Executive commands suited progressive initiatives in public education, if the campus activists have their way.
Members of the Counseling Committee of the Rutgers University recently passed the resolution To establish a “compact defense” for combining legal and political resources to members within the Academic Association of Big Ten, contrary to the Trump administration orders. The resolution calls President Rutgers Jonathan Hollowaya to lead the efforts and “take on a leading role in the summary of the academic and legal leadership of BIG TEN to launch the implementation of this compact.”
One professor who spoke with Fox News Digital in the answer that “the left has discovered freedom of speech.”
“These are the same people who had to punish other university community members for using the wrong deposits for so -called micro -playing,” said Dr. Kevin Jon Williams, a professor of cardiovascular sciences at Temple University, for Fox News Digital in an interview.

“They banned conservative speakers And engage in violence to prevent conservative speakers to come to campus, they would abolish offers to potential applicants who have been received on the basis of someone who has found something they have done maybe when they were 11 or 12, “Williams said.” I mean, they were completely malicious and completely against any freedom of expression. “
Williams was one of the professors of the measure – formally called the resolution to establish a compact defense for the University of the Big Ten Academic Federation of Academic Freedom, an institutional integrity and research company – initially sent before the University Senate of Rutgers University adopted it.
Resolution says that “recent and escalating politically motivated actions of government bodies represent a significant threat to the basic principles of US higher education, including the autonomy of the university management, integrity scientific researchAnd as such, “and as such,” Trump administration and harmonized political actors signaled a willingness to target individual institutions with legal, financial and political inflammation intended to undermine their public mission, silence of votes and/or executing irregular control over academic research. “
The resolution of the defense company was created by Big Ten Academic Alliance, an organization made up of more than a dozen University of Big Ten, which includes both public and private institutions. Originally known as the Committee on Institutional Cooperation, the Union was founded to encourage research cooperation and joint resources.

“I don’t think they are hypocrites, I think they’re lying,” Williams added. “I think what they do is to hide behind a cloak free speechthey do not believe in, they try to maintain their control over the university environment. It’s a plot. It is a strategy and we should not take them seriously when they say they are interested in freedom of speech, because they have shown that they are sure to oppose free speech. “
Under the proposal, Universities participating He would contribute to the Fund for the Common Defense to provide direct support to what the establishments are legal and political violations. It is unclear which universities in Big Ten can support the resolution.
The resolution will also be “transferred to the leadership of all Big Ten universities and their administrative committees and shared management bodies”, while the president of the Rutgers University “has taken a leading role in composing the academic and legal leadership of BIG TEN to launch the implementation of this compact.”

“This is an extraordinarily political partisan document,” said Williams, who is also a guy of a conservative advocacy group. “This is a wide brush of the condemnation of Trump’s administration. Now, for sure, free speech, they absolutely have the right to do so, but if they do, they stop being non -partisan, and I would question their status exempt from taxes.”
Many Big Ten Universities have historically received federal scholarships for research from agencies such as National Health Institutes, National Science Foundation and the Ministry of Energy.

The resolution comes at a time when Trump’s administration has critically viewed universities that received federal funding. In March, the administration took away $ 400 million of federal scholarships to Columbia University, citing concerns about anti -Semitism in the campus after October 7, Hamas’ attacks on Israel. This action was part of the wider initiative that examined elite universities for alleged violations of civil rights, especially according to Jewish students.
The administration also diverted its focus to remove initiatives for the diversity, equality and involvement of the University (dei) to align with Trump’s executive commands while forbids biological males from female sports. The Ministry of Education has announced an investigation into more than 50 colleges due to alleged racial discrimination, causing a reception and scholarship at the February race.
Trump also signed an executive command that significantly reduced the size of the Department of Education in March. While the business business decreases, it retains control of critical functions such as the funding of titles I, Pell Grarants, Student Labor and Special Education Financing.
