‘Dennis the Menace’ star Jay North dead at 73

“It wasn’t as easy for you as it was for some of us, not that it was a piece of cake that is sure, but you suffered much more than most. You were a great guy Jay and I miss you with all my heart, but I know you’re in peace now.”

The northern character was based on the comic book “Dennis the Menace” created by Hank Ketcham.

The show was aired for four seasons, starting with October 1959, and was canceled in 1963 after more than 140 episodes.

North was also known for his voice work, and expressed the characters for “Here’s The Grump”, “Arab Knights”, “The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show” and “The Simpsons”.

His last role on the screen was along with David Spade in comedy in 2003, “Dickie Roberts: Former Children’s Star.”

A decade after finding success, North admitted that he had suffered abuse as a children’s actor and claimed that his aunt would physically attack him on the set.

“I used to wake up every morning thinking, ‘My God, do I have to spend another day with this woman? “Because I would go in and make a scene, I would get off the set and everyone said,” Hey, you did a great job. “And then I would get a slap on my face, or take it to the locker room and hit verbally or verbally to run into the tongue or anything,” North Katie Couric said.
