Fox looks inside at the Texas Department of Public Security Elite K-9 Program, where rigorous training transforms inexperienced dogs into highly qualified units specialized in drug detection, explosives and tracking.
Austin, Texas – IN The Texas Department of Public Security (DPS) expands its K-9 training program, arranging highly trained dogs to help the drug ban, explosive detection and monitoring of missions throughout the country.
Lieutenant Boyd Lamb, a 19-year-old DPS veteran and a member of the K-9 program for 12 years, took FOX to a tour of his training in Florence in Texas who transformed the dogs treated into specialist property to implement the law.

“We take a green dog dog that absolutely knows nothing and turns that dog into a working machine,” said Lieutenant Lamb. “Whether it should be a drug detection, explosive detection or tracking dog, we start here with the basics, and then send them in Texas.”

The program is proud of presenting real life scenarios, including controlled chaos situations such as helicopter implementation.
“Any exposure to which we can introduce them is critical,” said Lieutenant Lamb. “We want to be sure that once they go out there … whether it is a mission to detect explosives or drug banned surgery … They can occur without exclusion.”
The DPS currently runs 74 K-9 teams across the country, including 51 drug detection teams, nine explosive detection teams and approximately 13 tracking teams. Many of these groups are deployed as part of the Lone Star surgery, the state initiative to stop drugmonds and unauthorized border crossings. K-9 Handler Landon Ravun is stationed in Del Rio and is well prepared for any scenario. Carosery shots show that his training used well during the mission last summer, when Ravun and his K-9, Bona, found a defected desire to kill.
