“I was in the same position before I needed a triple cycle. If anyone ever looked at my numbers, I have two three, so the odds are not in my favor, aren’t they?” Said Kelly after the game.
“I didn’t do it for the first time. This time I’m like,” Oh, I’ll just put together a good bat. “Hit him, like,” Oh, pretty well. “Then I hit (the first base) and saw him Ricochet, and I said,” Oh, boy, this is right here, I have to go. “That’s probably the fastest that you will ever see me running.”
With a triple trio, Kelly has become the first Cubs player since Mark Grace hit the cycle. The former first base man did it on May 9, 1993 against San Diego Padres. Kelly is the first Cubs catcher to hit the cycle since Randy Hundley did it on August 11, 1966.

Kelly also became the third main alloy to hit the cycle and walk twice in the same game. Joe Gordon did it for New York Yankees 1940, and Mickey Cochrane did so in 1937 for Philadelphia A’s.
While Kelly knew he was going after the cycle, his manager Craig Counsell did not.
“I didn’t realize he had the opportunity in the cycle, but when that ball threw out the wall, she started to go crazy. So, I decided that something was going on,” Counsell said. “They are fun days, there are rare days and days are once in their lives for players.”
