Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is facing an allegation that he copied parts of his 1995 doctoral thesis at Oxford University without proper merit. The report comes because he is looking for an election to remain the Prime Minister of the country next month, when the Canadian voters are heading to the polls on April 28.
The national post examined Carney’s thesis, a “dynamic advantage of competition”, with three university experts, who found at least 10 cases of apparent plagiarism.
Experts for the National Post said that Carney copied full quotes, paraphrased ideas and slightly modified sentences from four different sources without giving a suitable loan.
“It is just directly repeated without quotation. It’s plagiarism,” said Geoffrey Sigalet, a professor at British Columbia University Who helps to deal with cases of academic violation of the law, he told the National Post.
Carney’s campaign responded to National Post by a statement by his former Oxford supervisory, Margaret Meyer, who rejected the accusations. “I see no evidence of plagiarism in the thesis,” she said. “Mark’s work thoroughly explored and approved the Faculty Committee.”

Meyer also told the National Post that “it is typical that the overlap language appears” if the sources are regularly referenced.
Oxford University defines plagiarism as “the presentation of an act or ideas from another source as its own without complete recognition.” Another professor, anonymously speaking to the national mail, said Carney’s thesis fulfilled that definition.
Carney’s spokeswoman Isabella Orozco-Madison, she called the charges “irresponsible wrong characteristic” for her work.
One of the key examples from the National Post report reports shows that Carney has carefully copied the passage from the book Michael E. Porter of 1990, the “competitive advantage of the people”. On page 206 of his thesis, Carney wrote: “First, government intervention can prevent international competition and artificially support domestic earnings.” It is almost identical to Porter’s original texts.

Carney also allegedly copied sections of Jeremy C. Stein from 1989 in a three -month journal Economics and HS Shin from 1994 in the article Rand Journal of Economics, with only smaller changes in the formulation.
Possible plagiarism occurs throughout the thesis. “It’s all in dissertation, not just one part,” Sigalet said. Even small changes in the formulation without a proper quote are still considered plagiarism.
Oxford University He warns that plagiarism is a serious crime that can lead to punishment, including expulsion. “Even when you are remodeling something, you still have to give a source,” Sigalet added.
Carney, a former Bank of Canada and Bank of England Governor, has had a high career, including the lead roles in Goldman Sachs and Brookfield Asset Management. Faced criticism for his elite background and globalistic preferences.
