Chiefs great Tony Gonzalez vows to pay Travis Kelce’s fine after record-breaking touchdown

Tony Gonzalez is a man of his word.

Travis Kelce outran the Hall of Fame tight end and broke Kansas City Chiefs’ franchise record for touchdown receptions in the team’s Christmas Day win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Kelce caught his 77th career touchdown in the fourth quarter and put his name in the record books alongside Gonzalez. Paying homage to the chiefs, Kelce then dunked the ball through the gate.

The celebration led to a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, but it didn’t matter to the veteran Harrison Butker, who kicked the extra point attempt.

During Prime Video’s pregame broadcast, Gonzalez promised to pay Kelce’s fine if he imitated his famous touchdown celebration.

“I’m so happy for him. He’s one of the best tight ends to ever do it [and] off the field,” he said. “I’ve followed him since he was a rookie, and I’m not surprised by that. He is one of the greatest tight ends of all time.

“If he nails it, I’ll pay that fine.”

Kelce responded to Gonzalez’s post on Xu celebrating the success and reminded him of the offer he made before the game.

​​You know I had to show love to the greatest of all time,” Kelce wrote. “You mentioned you were going to help me with the fine.”
