Venezuela will face “heavy and escalating sanctions” if he refuses to accept his citizens who are deported from the United States, State Secretary Marco Rubio said on Tuesday.
A hard warning comes as Trump administration seeks to increase the deportations of Venezuelanians who live in the United States illegally -they need a temporary residence program for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelanians, which could take the way to lose their legal status.

Many of the protected status have moved to the United States in the middle of the economic collapse in Venezuela under the authoritarian rule of President Nicolas Madur.
“Venezuela is obliged to accept her returned citizens from the US, this is not a question for discussions or negotiations,” Rubiyio wrote on X. “Nor does he deserve any reward. If the Maduro regime does not accept the consistent flow of flights of deportations, without further pronunciation or delay, now will impose new, and escalations and escalations.”
The threat followed for days after Richard Grenell, a special envoy of President Donald Trump, who is in charge of ensuring the release of six US citizens closed in Venezuela, said the Maduro Government agreed to accept flights of repatria.
Maduro agreed to accept his citizens after he initially refused to do so.

In February, Trump completed his oil export license to allow Chevron to export oil from Venezuela to the United States, Trump noted that the Madurov government did not fulfill the measures to promote free and honest elections.

During the interview at Fox News Radio, Rubio thanked President El Salvadoran Nayib Bukele for accepting migrants.
“Venezuela should take them, but they refuse to take them. And so, we are fortunate to have a friend like President Bukele, who, as part of my meeting with him, said that we would take them for a fraction of what it costs to accommodate them in your own prison system,” he said.
