First on the fox: The double -sided group of legislators pushes to reform the stimulating structure of the Pharmacy Managers (PBMS), claiming that it increases the cost of patients by encouraging them to favored multiple prices while denying potential savings.
Led by a doctor and GOP Iowa, Ambassador Mariannette Miller-Meek, the group on Tuesday presented “cancellation of income from the unjust law on Gunja (drugs), demanding that PBMs on the commercial market charge only a flat fee for their services related to specific prescription drug, Opposite that they allow them to continue to charge the percentage of medication price.
PBMs are third-party mediators between insurance companies, drug manufacturers and pharmacies that are used to control the price of medicines and approaches. The current stimulating structure for PBMS, according to the sponsors of the drug law, encourages them to increase the price of medication price to increase profit.
“Pharmacy fees (PBMS) managers have an excessive impact on the prices that patients pay on the pharmacy counter,” said Miller-Meek. “Local Iowa pharmacy is closed due to greedy PBM practices, which affects the proximity and access to the IOWANS medicines. The drug law will put pressure on prescription prices and insurance premiums by eliminating incentives for PBM to increase the census price of the drug.”

As a result of these practices, pharmacies in Iowa and across the country were forced to close, the association states in January. Twenty -nine Iowa pharmacies and 2,300 pharmacies across the country closed their doors in 2024, according to the Association.
While the PBM -Time played an important role in the fact that the drugs are wider available, over decades connection and acquisition, The three largest PBM now manage almost 80% of all recipes filled in the US, according to 2024 report from the Federal Commission for Trade.
The reforms of the drug law are used to resolve this anti-conciseness, which they say will also help the sponsors of the law to reduce costs.
