Waves of air strikes hit cities in Yemen

Airstrikes have hit Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, as well as the Red Sea city of Hudaydah.

The AFP news agency reported that Houthi TV called the attack “an act of aggression by Israel”. Israel did not respond.

The extent of the strike or injuries is unclear from initial reports. In recent days, Israel has warned that it is planning an attack on the Houthi rebels in Yemen after the group opened fire on them.

The Houthis have been fighting Israel with drones and missiles since the first months of the Gaza war, which began in October 2023. The war was triggered by an unexpected attack on Israel by a Hamas gunman from Gaza, who was praised by the Houthis.

Israel has been retaliating against the Houthis since then.

Earlier this week, Israel’s defense minister said it was planning a “strong attack” on the Houthis, and warned it would “remove” the group’s leadership.
