“Considering other events held last spring, the UJB determination recognized previously imposed disciplinary action,” the school statement said. “The return of suspended students will be monitored by the office for the life of the University of Columbia.”
The penalties enter into force at the end of the appeal period, an administrator of the school rulebook said on Thursday.

The same month, the president of the Columbia Minouche Shafik University departed after months of criticism for treating the campus protests, many of which went into conflicts between anti-Israeli demonstrators and police and anti-Semitism in the campus.
On Friday, Armstrong issued a letter in response to Trump’s administration that reduced the federal support to the school.

“When I accepted the role of temporary president in August 2024, I knew that Columbia needed resetting from the previous year and the chaos camp and protest at our campus,” Armstrong wrote. “The university was also to recognize and repair the damage to our Jewish students, who were targeted, harassed and made to feel insecure or undesirable in our campus last spring.”
