Favorite television news anchor from Georgia he fell into a ravine while hiking – prompting emergency services to make a daring rescue.
Carol Sbarge, who worked for WSB-TV nearly three decades, she went hiking with her boyfriend in the Chattahoochee National Forest in September.
Her peaceful hike turned into a disaster when she tumbled down a steep gorge.
“So somehow, while I was somehow walking down the trail, I hit a rock with my foot. And before I knew it, I just plummeted down this gorge,” she told WSB-TV.

She broke her ankle in three places during the fall, she told the paper.
Her boyfriend first tried – unsuccessfully – to call 911 for help, but their remote location prevented a call.

The teams have arrived on the scene after walking two miles up the trail and quickly assessing the steep slope where Sbarge fell. Local media reported that with the help of ropes and a helicopter, they slowly lifted her out of the abyss.
Officials said it was the first time they had ever evacuated a hiker at Panther Creek Falls.
Sbarge was flown 3.6 miles by helicopter before being admitted to a local hospital. She told local media that she needed eight screws and a metal plate in her ankle.

“They’re just special people. They put themselves at risk. You know, every day they don’t know what kind of danger they’re going to face,” Sbarge told the newspaper, referring to the lifeguards.
