Governor of California Gavin Newsom is reportedly considering a plan to help illegal immigrants and their families threatened by President-elect Trump’s mass deportation plan.
A draft of the plan obtained by POLITICO, titled “Immigrant Support Network Concept,” proposes creating an Immigrant Support Network consisting of regional hubs to “connect at-risk individuals, their families and communities with community systems — such as legal services, schools , labor unions, local authorities, etc.”
Fox News Digital reached out Trump representatives. Newsom’s office told Fox News Digital that the draft was prepared by the California Department of Human Services and had not yet been reviewed in Sacramento.

“This document is an internal and deliberative draft document intended for internal discussions as part of a number of possible considerations given the federal administration’s public objections,” Scott Murray, deputy director, Public Affairs and Public Affairs Programs for the Department of Human Services, told Fox News Digital in the statement. “It is not a final proposal.”
The bill is part of an effort by California leaders to prepare for another Trump administration. After Trump was elected, Newsom called a special legislative session and talked about a $25 million “Trump-proof” legal defense fund.
In addition, state legislators lobbied for additional funding.
Senate Budget Chairman Scott Wiener has proposed legislation requesting $60 million, including creation funds immigrant detention advocacy and coordination program, Politico reported.

Under the draft, the state Department of Social Welfare would give state funds to eligible nonprofits and take over administrative duties for the centers.
The draft does not specify how much funding is needed for the plan. However, it said the funds will go toward “community outreach, partnerships, legal services positions and approved administrative costs associated with the center’s operations,” according to the Politico report.
California is currently facing a $68 billion budget deficit, according to state figures Office of the Legislative Analyst.

“The administration continues to work with the Legislature to finalize a thoughtful special session funding proposal, which is on track to be signed into law before January 20, 2025,” department spokeswoman Theresa Mier told the publication.
