First Black GOP Congresswoman stopping treatments for brain cancer, daughter says

The family of former American ambassador Mia Love focused on enjoying the time they left with her after her Cancer stopped Responding to treatments, the daughter of a Republican daughter Utah, Abigale said on Saturday.

“Hello friends, I’m Mia’s daughter of Abigale. Many of you are aware that Mom fought against GBM brain cancer,” Abigale wrote on his mother’s X account.

Love was diagnosed with in 2022 with a glioblastoma, a brain tumor, and revealed her diagnosis in August 2023.

Abigale added: “Unfortunately, her cancer no longer responds to treatment, and cancer is progressing. We have switched a focus from treatment to enjoy our remaining time with her.”

Love became the first black Republican woman chosen to Congress when in 2014 she won the Redown County near Salt Lake City, previously represented by Democrat. She was also the first member of the Black Congress from Utah.

“I was not elected to Saratoga Springs because of my race or gender or fifth,” Love said in 2013 as the mayor of the city of Utah. “I was chosen there by people because I had a plan and a vision to become financially stable.”

The 49-year-old in Congress performed two terms, working on the Financial Services Committee, and she was the only Republican in the Congress Black MP.

She was defeated by Democrats in 2018.

Love is the last published about her diagnosis in May, writing: “In recent years, they were not easy, but in my faith and constant support and love in my family found strength and comfort. They gave me hope together! No matter the challenges you are facing now, continue to fight and know that there is hope.”

Love said the church group of young people in 2023 that when she went on vacation in 2022, her headaches began to get worse.

“As soon as we landed, I felt a headache,” she said to the group, according to KSL Radio. “When we went to the beach, the reflection of the sun on the water was worsened by a headache. My husband took me to the hospital.”

The doctors found a tumor and she was undergoing surgery to remove 95%.

After being revealed that the tumor is malignant, love has started chemotherapy, radiation and, at the end, immunotherapy.

Love, which has previously been transformed from Catholicism into the Church of Jesus’ saints of the saints in recent days, said last year to CNN that “she was looking for a cure in my faith and science.”

Late Senator John McCain was also diagnosed with glioblastoma in 2017. He died in 2018.

Despite its diagnosis, love remained politically engaged during the last election cycle, denying the attempt to assassination on President Trump in July on X.

“Political violence is scornful,” she wrote. “There is no, nor will it ever exist in our Republic. If you find yourself supporting or wanting violence, know that you are wrong. Can we repeat politeness, reasonable discourse and proper civic engagement, not by anger and hatred.”

A week later, she announced, “After last week, I’m all in Team Trump/Vance! They have a passionate vision of an American revival that allows all Americans to realize their dreams.”

After the announcement of her daughter on Saturday, Love received support.

“Mia Love is a dear friend. I pray for her and her family,” Senator Mike Lee from Utah posted on X.

Utah Government Spencer Cox wrote: “Mia Love served with integrity, and her strength and grace continue to inspire us. Our hearts are with Mia and her family at this difficult time. Utah stands with you.”

“I’m so sorry,” the former colleague of love wrote, former Republican Ambassador Adam Kinzinger.
