BBC reporter returns to childhood home destroyed in Syria civil war

The Yarmouk refugee camp in Damascus has paralleled the suffering of Syrians during the civil war that began in 2011.

It was the center of Palestinian refugees in the Middle East, with a population of about 150,000. But it was destroyed in the war, enduring a siege and fierce fighting between the rebels and the government forces, which were captured by the Islamic State group.

Now, with the fall of the Assad regime, people are starting to return home, including BBC Arabic’s Feras Killani, who grew up there with his family before leaving in 2013.
