Iran has been accused of spying on Britan and Lindsay Foreman, accusing them of collecting intelligence in the country and linking foreign intelligence services to the Islamic Republic.
“They entered Iran in disguise of tourism and research projects, but have collected information in several provinces,” judicial spokesman Asgar Jahangir told local journalists on Tuesday. “These persons cooperated with the foreground organizations associated with the intelligence services of Western and hostile countries.”
The couple, who were traveling on their motorcycle, were arrested last month in Karman province in southeast province. The judiciary on Tuesday confirmed that Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was responsible for their arrest.
The videos of laughing, dancing and enjoying their time in Iran have been viral since then on Iran’s social media.
Foremen are the last to arrest Western and dual citizens of Iran on espionage charges. European governments often refer to Iran’s nuclear programs and other disputes, including regional policies, as well as the main source of excitement with Tehran.

Washington also demanded that Tehran’s military activities in the Middle East and its ballistic missile program be ended.
Iran, however, emphasized that it would resist US pressure and denied the discussion with the Trump administration. Although Iranian leaders have kept diplomatic channels open with European powers – Britain, France and Germany, which have signed the 20th nuclear deal – they have expressed disappointment over European warning over Iran’s UN sanctions on nuclear activities.
Whether Tehran has seen the British couple as a potential leverage in the future discussion is still unclear, where Britain’s role in influencing US policy may be significant.
