Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a group of senior officials to Saudi Arabia to meetings with the US about a potential peace agreement for Ukraine, Kremlin announced on Monday.
Officials, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Putin’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Jurija Ushakov, will meet with US colleagues on Tuesday. Groups plan to talk about the reconstruction of diplomatic relationships between Washington and Moscow, as well as the Ukrainian peace agreement and a potential meeting of President Donald Trump and Putin.
State Secretary Marco Rubio will lead the US delegation, accompanied by Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and national security adviser Mike Waltz, State Department confirmed on Monday.
The meeting comes just days after Trump revealed that he had talked to Putin in a phone call last week. Trump said he and Putin “agreed that our teams would start negotiations immediately.”

“I said that [Putin] is a liar, “Zelenskyy recounted his phone call to Trump.” And he said, “I think my feeling that he is ready for those negotiations.” And I told him, ‘No, he’s a liar. He does not want any peace. “”
Zelenskyy, however, said he believed Putin was “a little scared” of Trump’s.

“These are details and I do not reject the details, they are important. But I think the beginning is the construction of confidence here. To make everyone understand that this war does not belong to the continuation, that it should end. This is what the president instructed us to do,” Witkoff told Fox News on Sunday.
In the meantime, British Prime Minister Kier Starmer confirmed that he was ready to put British troops on the ground in Ukraine to ensure his safety as part of the peace agreement.
“I’m not saying that lightly,” he wrote in the Daily Telegraph. “I feel a very deep responsibility that comes with the potential to put on British soldiers and women to detriment.”
“But every role in helping to guarantee Ukraine security helps guarantee the safety of our continent and the safety of this country,” he added.

In his interview, Zelenskyy added that he would not accept any negotiations that only the US and Russia had thrown out.
“I will never accept any decisions between the United States and Russia about Ukraine. Never … The war in Ukraine is against us, and that is our human losses. We are grateful for all support, unity between the US – in the US – In the environment, Ukrainian support, Bipartisan Unity, two -sided support, we are grateful for all this. Putin without us about us,“He said.
